Sleep Tight

Getting quality sleep while away from home may not come naturally. Sleeping someplace new with no set routine can be disruptive to your slumbering patterns, particularly in a different time zone. No one wants to merely endure vacation, feeling like an insomniac on a mission, so here are a few easy tips for a perfect night of peace.

Sleeping Peacefully

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends seven to nine hours of sleep each night. We say sweet dreams as you enjoy all of yours.

1Zone In

Since vacations are about temporarily cutting ties with real life, detach from your time zone at home and set all of your time-telling devices to the local land. Experts advise special tricks to help your body adjust like sticking to a set schedule and taking in the sunsets to reset your internal timer.

2Healthy Habits

Partaking in the party while on board may involve more alcohol than your body is used to. And delectable dining is certainly on the schedule. But heavy foods later in the evening and too much sampling of the spirits are known to impede sleep. May we suggest this sage advice: everything in moderation.

3Bedtime Prep

Even if a morning shower is an essential step in your daily routine, the feeling of clean skin slipping into fresh sheets at night is worth taking an extra evening wash. Keep the water on the cool side; your internal temperature plays an important part in a good night’s rest. Also try some aromatherapy and herbal aids while you’re slowing down. Lavender, chamomile, and valerian are known to have sedative properties, and melatonin has been linked to the regulation of circadian rhythms.

4Dozing Devices

Ariana Huffington of Huffington Post fame reports that she packs extra scarves when she travels in order to make the room very dark. Sleeping masks, ear plugs, and even bracelets like Philip Stein’s with Natural Frequency Technology can be crucial ingredients in you getting the right amount of shut-eye no matter where you roam.
